The Instigators Images Preview Doug Liman Heist Thriller Starring Matt Damon and Casey Affleck

The first images for The Instigators have been released.

The Instigators is a new heist thriller movie directed by Doug Liman that stars Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, and Hong Chau. Entertainment Weekly has shared the first images from the upcoming film, which releases this August.

What do we know about The Instigators?

“A botched robbery causes two thieves to go on the run, dragging along one of their therapists in the process,” the synopsis for the movie reads.

The Instigators is co-written by Affleck and Chuck Maclean. Damon produces the movie alongside Ben Affleck, Jeff Robinov, John Graham, and Kevin J. Walsh.

“Casey Affleck and Chuck MacLean had created some great characters and a really fun world,” Damon told Entertainment Weekly. “More than anything, it was a chance to work with Doug and Casey together that I was the most excited about. And it’s always great to go back to Boston.”

Damon, who hasn’t worked with Liman since 2002’s The Bourne Identity, added, “I absolutely love working with Doug. I can’t believe it took us 20 years to find something else to do together. Doug is one of the most creatively tenacious people I’ve ever met. He just won’t stop until the movie is as good as it can be, and that is the best possible thing you can feel from a director. I trust him completely.”

Casey Affleck compared the movie to 1988’s Midnight Run and 1969’s Butch Cassidey and the Sundance Kid. He also noted that he always “wanted to do a buddy action comedy.”

The film also stars Paul Walter Hauser, Michael Stuhlbarg, Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina, Ron Perlman, and Jack Harlow.

The Instigators will be released in selected United States theaters on August 2, 2024. It will then begin streaming globally on Apple TV+ on August 9, 2024.
