Stand by Me is a 1961 classic R&B soul song originally recorded by American singer-songwriter Ben E. King, housed on his third (3rd) studio album Don’t Play That Song!. It was written by a trio of King, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.
Singer John Lennon recorded his version of the song for his 1975 album Rock ‘n’ Roll. His version happened to be his last hit prior to his five-year hiatus from the music industry.
The song reached number twenty (20) on the US Billboard Hot 100, while its highest peak was at the number-ten spot in Canada.
