Gimme the Light is a dancehall song by Jamaican artist Sean Paul, which served as the first single from his 2002 studio album Dutty Rock. The song was written by Sean Paul and Troyton Rami, and produced by the Black Shadow duo of Troyton Rami & Roger Mackenzie.
The track was released as a single on May 21, 2002, becoming Paul’s first hit single as it reached number seven (7) on the US Billboard Hot 100. Its highest success was on the US Billboard Rhythmic Top 40 where it reached the top of the chart, also reaching the number-two spot on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs.
In 2005, Nigerian afro-pop duo P-Square interpolated the song in their hit single, Bizzy Body.
It’s safe to say Sean Paul has been hot right from the start.
