The Inauspicious - S01 E13

Amanda laughed loud and hard as Emmy teased her with words. They were having a get-together at Mabel’s place. Emmy had not stopped teasing her since she found out about her and Raymond. Laura and Mabel didn’t help matters as they always had one or two things to add while all Amanda did was laugh. It was three against one.

Emmy: i can’t wait to see you in your wedding gown

Laura/Mabel: yeah me too.

Amanda: (smiled lightly) Ray hasn’t even proposed and you are already buying the wedding gown. Funny.

Laura: oh please Amanda, you and i know that Ray would propose soon if not tommorrow ( Amanda flushed lightly at the thought of Ray proposing)

Emmy: aww, someone is already imagining it (they laughed)

Mabel whinced slightly and let out a stiffled moan.

Are you okay? They asked in unison

Mabel: i don’t know. I think……. (she screamed slightly and bit her bottom lips. They rushed to her side) i think the baby is coming out (she failed at her attempt to smile)

there was too much pain in her waist region that she felt that her lower region was going to pull out of her upper body. Her body shook with pain as she tried to stiffle a scream.

Amanda ran up the stairs. Laura was making calls while Emmy sat beside her trying her trying to help soothe the pain.

Soon they were on the road with Amanda driving with high speed. Laura had to stay back to boil water for the flask.

Amanda paced back and forth in the waiting room. She could tell the kind of pain Mabel was going through since she had been there before. Her’s took almost 3hrs and the doctors had already opted for caesarian section before the baby had miraculously come out. She had wanted to name her miracle but choose Jovita instead meaning ‘happiness’. She prayed fervently for her sister not to go through the same thing. Safe and swift delivery she prayed as she continued to pace.

Emmy: Amanda, please stop pacing. You are making me feel dizzy (Amanda stopped and stared at her for a while before resuming her pacing. Emmy sighed)

soon, the hospital’s waiting room was filled with the family waiting to hear from the doctor about Mabel. Michael had joined Amanda in her pacing spree. The doctor came out of the delivery room after what seemed like eternity. They all rushed to him but his face could make someone pass out.

Michael: doctor, please say something

a smile crept up his face and shook Michael’s hands

Doctor: congratulations, you have a baby boy

so much information. Money is powerful. Katherine thought as she listened to the private investigator rant on.

She had employed the service of a private investigator to look into Amanda’s private life and her relationship with Ray. And with what she had gathered, she now knew Amanda’s girlfriend and babymama. She twisted her lips as she continued to listen.

Katherine: okay, enough. You can go, i’ve heard enough already (he left immediately)

she drummed her fingers on the side stool as she thought of a possible way to get Ray to herself. An evil smile crept up her face as an evil thought rang through her mind.

* 8 days later *

His name is Justin EruOghene Michael. Michael recited. It was their son’s naming ceremony. Everyone was gathered in their house; family, friends, well wishers and colleague. Every face beamed with smiles as they watched both mother and father hold unto the child with so much joy.

Amanda looked at Raymond who was standing beside her and smiled.

Ray: where is Jovita?

Amanda: she went with suliat. I sent her on an errand. But she should have been back by now (she glanced at the clock, it was a few minutes past five)

She should have been back by now. She mummured to herself

with her phone in her hand, she headed outside. She dialled suliats number but it wasn’t going through and the drivers number was unavailable. She called Ray to join her outside when her thoughts began to run wild.

Ray: love, what is it?

Amanda: (with shaky voice) i have a bad feeling that something bad has happened to Jovita.

Ray: (hugged her) shhh don’t say such. I’m sure they would be here soon.

As if on cue, suliat and the driver came in. Their faces like someone who had just been released after twenty years in prison. They were not with the car nor was Jovita with them. Amanda glanced at Ray before looking back at them.

Amanda: where is Jovita?

Suliat: ma… ma…ma

Ray: just say it

driver: jovita…. Jovita…. Jovita has…. Has

Ray: (getting impatient) what happened to her?

Driver: jovita has… Has been….been kidnapped.

Ray/Amanda: what?
