6 Months Later

Amanda stared at the two graves before her and shut her eyes as tears threatened to pour down like rain. With blurry eyes, she stared at the incription on the first grave.

LAURA RUNO ANDISON

25years

1989-2014

Strangely, Amanda wished laura was alive even though she had almost killed her. In her heart she felt Laura didn’t deserve to die, atleast not yet and definitely not in the manner she did. Her gaze shifted to the other grave with

MRS HOPE CHINWE ANDISON boldly written on it and more tears fell from her eyes.

Mrs Andison had slumped and died when Laura’s body was just 3feets to the ground. She had fallen sick since the news of Laura’s death and had insisted on being around for her daughters burial but it turned both of their burial. She regretted treating Laura badly but Amanda wished it had been earlier, then Laura wouldn’t have been 7feet down and maybe she would have been alive herself.

She felt a drag at her gown and she turned slowly to see her daughter staring up at her, a cute little smile on her face. She stooped down and hugged her before carrying her gently on her arm. A gentle but grateful smile greased her face as she saw Ray approaching. He was cladded in a white shirt , white trousers and white sneakers. His face held a cute smile also. With one last glance at the cemented graves, she closed the gap between them before burying her face on his chest and soaking his shirt with her tears.

6 Months Later

Amanda did not know how long she stayed down on the cold tiled floor but her eyes only opened unwillingly when she felt a tap on her. With the little strength she could muster, she stood on her feet even though her knees felt weak. With blurry eyes, she stared at Pastor James Osaso, the resident pastor of the Pentecostal Church of God (OLEZI) . The pastor smiled at her and somehow the smile seemed to give her peace, made her feel lighter. His words comforted her even more.

It is well, he said with his ever smiling face.

With wobbling knees, she had left the church premises. Since she felt she couldn’t drive, she opted for a cab which took her to the hospital only to meet the greatest suprise of her life. Laying weak but concious on the hospital bed with everyone fussing around him was her luna and sunshine; Ray. She didn’t know whether to faint, cry, smile or laugh.

According to the doctor, his heartbeat had come up after 40minutes of lifeless. It was indeed a miracle. One she was and will forever be grateful to God for.

PRESENT

PENTECOSTAL CHURCH OF GOD (OLEZI), PORTHARCOURT

pastor: By the power vested on me as an anointed man of God, i declare you both husband and wife. (the congregation cheered loudly.)

Amanda smile through tears and stared at Raymond who was smiling also. Even though she didn’t have a veil covering her face, she still looked like an angel. Her wedding gown was wow. It was a long-sleeved, spotless white silky gown with diamond at it’s round necked line. It was simple but simply amazing. Ray was also looking handsome in his white tuxedo suit and lemon green shirt and bow-tie.

The church was filled to the brim leaving the couples to wonder where they had all come from. Mabel stood behind her dressed in a lemon green flowery gown as her chief bridemaid while Darlington who was dressed like Ray acted as the groom’s man.

Though it was suppose to be her happy day, she couldn’t help but feel sad over Laura’s death as she remembered all the plans they had both put in place. They had both mapped out their future when they were younger. The had both wanted to get married on the same day and if that didn’t happen, they would be each other’s bridemaid. She remembered the times they read together, laughed, fought, quarelled and joked.

How had the future been cut short. How had jealousy, guilt, hatred and low self-esteem snuff the life out of a friend. How had those sweet memories become bitter. She thought.

But she was grateful for one thing; for the life of her love, the man of her heart, her heartrobe. She thought of how meaningless, loveless and lifeless her life would have been without him and muttered a “thank you God.” She sure would have been a single mother all her life if anything had happened to him. Her trailer load of thoughts was interupted when she heard the pastor say something.

Pastor: so now we ask the groom if may want to let him kiss his bride.

Ray chuckled. He took a step closer and claimed her lips in a breath choking kiss. The congregation cheered more when the kiss lingered on and on.

Pastor: Wonderful! Now permit me to say, you may now kiss your groom (the congregation roared with laughter)

Amanda twitched her lips as if warning him to prepare for what was coming for him. With a step even closer and her hands on his neck and his on her waist, she gave him a long-life kiss. A kiss that held many unspoken but passionate words. A kiss that tied their hearts to become one.
